A care home in Chingford hosted its very own art exhibition, complete with a live opera performance.

Care UK’s Ivy Grove, on Hatch Lane, was transformed into a mini gallery for the occasion, with residents proudly displaying their colourful and creative works.

Among the artists were residents Laura Shirra, 95, Christine Jones, 74, and Iris Banting, 88.

Reflecting on having her artwork displayed, Iris said: “It’s rewarding to see my work displayed alongside everyone else’s instead of just staying in my books. It gives me great joy to see it being shared and enjoyed.”

Adding a touch of grandeur to the evening, Italian tenor Yuri Sabatini performed classic arias which filled the room, while residents sipped wine and sampled cheese.

Commenting on the performance, Christine said: “It’s a wonderful sound, isn’t it? It just fills the space beautifully.”

Jacob Mante, general manager at Ivy Grove, said: “The art exhibition was a huge success and the perfect opportunity for residents to showcase their creativity.

“Everyone was blown away by the talent on display, and the live opera performance really struck a chord – it was a truly special evening.”

Ivy Grove provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies, and boasts its own café, activity room and hair and beauty salon.
