The Score Centre in Leyton will celebrate its first birthday by hosting a free community open day on Thursday, 16th October, from 8am to 10pm for residents and members.

A wide range of free activities for all ages and fitness levels will be on offer – including social pickleball, social badminton, fitness classes and full access to the gym – and complimentary refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Local partners – including Leyton Orient FC, London Pulse netball team and Zip Zap kids class providers – will attend the event with stalls and free taster sessions, and from 2 to 4pm there will be a celebration reception in collaboration with the council, with speeches and activities.

The Score Centre is also marking its first twelve months by unveiling an expanded gym offering, including additional dumbbells, resistance machines and cardiovascular equipment, as well as a larger workout area.

Daniel O’Connor, GLL Partnership Manager, says: “It’s been a remarkable twelve months for the Score Centre. Over 300,000 people have visited, we have held a number of high profile events and built a vibrant, active community. We are looking forward to many more years of promoting health and wellbeing in Leyton.

“Whether you are a new visitor or a regular member, the open day will be an excellent opportunity to celebrate a year of fitness, fun and community spirit at the Score Centre.”

Since opening, the Score Centre has hosted a number of major events, including London Pulse and England handball and volleyball tournaments, which have further enhanced community engagement.

Councillor Rosalind Dore, cabinet member for libraries, culture, sports and leisure, says: “We are looking forward to celebrating the Score Centre’s first birthday with residents and partners. In just twelve months, the Centre has become a true hub for health, wellbeing and community life in Leyton.

“The expansion of the gym is a fantastic step forward, ensuring even more local people have access to high-quality facilities on their doorstep. We look forward to continuing our partnership with GLL and seeing the Centre go from strength to strength.”
