Sixth forms across the borough today celebrated A Level results day, with many pointing to a stronger set of results than last year, reports Marco Marcelline

Waltham Forest sixth formers celebrated A Level results day today (14th August), amid scenes of jubilation across the country.
28.2% of A Level entries in England gained A or A* and 9.4% received an A*, while 32.1% of entries in London gained an A* or A.
Leyton’s Norlington School & Sixth Form was celebrating one in four grades at A–A*, with 60% at B or above, and 82% at C or above.
Front of the victory parade was Muhammad Abubakar who chalked up As in Maths and Further Maths, plus As in Physics and Computer Science. He is now heading to Warwick for Computer Science. He said: “I’m happy – the As were close to A*s so I’d have loved the clean sweep! Warwick’s the top uni for Computer Science, so I’m buzzing.”

Gary Nsiah, 18, who attained an A* Chemistry, A* Maths, and A in Biology, will go on to study Pharmacy at King’s College London. He said: “I was nervous about Biology but I’m really happy. Starting revision early made the run-up less stressful. I’m excited and nervous – I’ve spent my whole life in east London so going to King’s will be a big change.”
The school’s sixth form head Donna Kenyon was delighted, saying: “Once again, we are celebrating the incredible success of our students. Many are securing their first choices, with a significantly above national average number heading to Russell Group universities. We’re immensely proud of all of them.”
Over at Highams Park School, 24% of A Level students received A*-A (an increase of 8% on the previous year) with 53% of grades being at A*-B (an increase of 5% on the previous year).
This was alongside all of its BTEC students receiving a merit or above, with 72% at distinction.

The results mean Highams Park ranks in the top quarter of sixth forms in the country, with over 80% of students obtaining a place at their first-choice universities.
Matilda, Ioan and Miriam achieved 10 A* and A grades and have secured places to read at Oxford and Cambridge to study PPE, Theology and French and Russian respectively.
Some further highlights include Iziah who with 3A*s in Maths, Further Mathematics and Physics will move onto read Physics at University of Bristol, and Emma who with 3 A*s in Philosophy, History, the Extended Project and an A in English Literature will go onto study History at the University of Warwick.
Chingford and Woodford Green MP Sir Iain Duncan Smith, and local councillor Rosalind Dore attended the school to celebrate the results with the students.
At Walthamstow Academy, Syrine Ghiat achieved an A* in Government & Politics, and two As in History and English Literature, and has secured her place at the University of Oxford to read Law.

Speaking of her success, Syrine said: “Thank you to every teacher, and every member of staff for making these two years memorable and for allowing me to reach my full potential. I would not have achieved any of it without the school and my head of sixth form.”
Across the Year 13 cohort, over a quarter (28%) of A Level entries were awarded A*-A grades and 58% were awarded A*-B grades.
Emma Skae, principal at Walthamstow Academy, said: “Today’s fantastic results are a testament to the hard work, determination and grit our sixth formers have shown to their A Level courses. I have been so impressed by the way they have tackled their studies over the past two years, continuously setting high goals and aspirations for themselves which they have reached, if not exceeded.
“A huge thank you to our exceptional sixth form team for their tireless support and guidance which has played such an important role in enabling our students to achieve the success they have today.”
