Seasoned comics including Shappi Khorsandi and John Kearns will perform alongside aspiring refugee comedians in Walthamstow’s Big Penny Social this month as part of Refugee Week.

The tenth edition of Laff-Ucino, which promises to bring laughs to Blackhorse Road beer hall on 19th June, will also include comedy workshops for asylum seekers.

The founder of Laff-Ucino is Walthamstow coffee shop founder and Pakistani refugee Usman Khalid.

He told the Echo the event was aimed at “challenging false narratives around refugees in society”.

Adding that the night will also include a free raffle with “great prizes” to be won, Usman said his mission with Laff-Ucino was also to nurture and platform refugee comic talent.

Comedians Selam Amare, Ed Night, Ania Magliano, will join Khorsandi and Kearns on the night while MC Sam Williams hosts.

Laff-Ucino is at Big Penny Social on Thursday 19th June from 8pm – 10pm. Get tickets here
