The ground-floor flat in a Chingford home was devastated by an intense fire yesterday night.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to the scene in Winchester Road shortly before 9pm.

While the fire was brought under control in around an hour, most of the building’s ground floor was damaged, although no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.

Fire crews from Walthamstow, Woodford, Leyton, Leytonstone and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.
