Jo Sealy from Waltham Forest Business Network meets an enterprising fashion stylist

A gift for making people look good and feel great led to a Walthamstow resident setting up her own image and style consultancy.

Nevo Concept Image & Style Consultancy provides services that include personal style grooming and wardrobe planning and was set up by Nevo Burrell in 2017.

She had previously led a successful fashion retail career with the likes of Selfridges and House of Fraser. Part of her role was to give honest one-to-one dressing advice to clients; however it was one particular incident that really inspired her to start her business.

“One of the customers I had advised when I worked in Selfridges returned to thank me after the event she attended and told me that her new outfit had given her the confidence to meet her new boyfriend!

“She had picked an unflattering outfit and I directed her to something more complementary.”

As a person who has always loved colours, style, fashion and dressing people, setting up the business was the next natural step for Nevo. Her first group workshop in central London last November has been followed by many more.

“I don’t believe in identikit, I work with my clients, taking into account their lifestyles and personalities and help them to develop their own true style. I care that my clients look good, feel good and feel like themselves. My business is not purely about clothes, ‘it’ items or being on trend. I want my clients to have body confidence.”

While concentrating on growing her clientele, Nevo admits that there are areas that she is still developing and learning about. To help address those gaps in knowledge, she successfully applied for a local business support programme – Forge, which provided workshops, events and advisor support.

“I also have ambitions to take on a staff team, however it’s still early days. I am looking for a volunteer researcher and event helper, expenses paid!”

For the moment Nevo is happy building her individual and corporate client base and working to build an online community of followers over the next12 months. Her advice for happiness in business?

“Stay focused, do not compare yourself to your peers, have integrity, be diligent, have the courage of your convictions, be enthusiastic and most of all, be nice!”
