Two dead in Walthamstow house blaze

The Metropolitan Police is leading an investigation into the cause of last night’s fire which destroyed a house on Forest Road

The fire appears to have completely destroyed the inside of the Forest Road property

Two people were found dead after a blaze that tore through a house on Forest Road in Walthamstow last night.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Metropolitan Police and the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

Emergency services were called to the fire at 10.24pm last night (21st April). It was brought under control two hours later thanks to the efforts of six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Walthamstow, Woodford, Leyton and Tottenham fire stations.

The two-storey terraced house, which sits opposite Waltham Forest Town Hall on Forest Road, was destroyed by the blaze, the LFB has said.

Forensic teams were seen combing the front garden of the property this afternoon when the Echo visited the scene. The end-of-terrace house and an adjacent alleyway remain taped off while officers conduct their investigation into the cause of the fire.

A spokesperson for the Met said that work is underway to confirm the identities of the two people who were found dead inside the property.

The Met is asking anyone with information about the fire to call 101 or post @MetCC with reference 7022/21April.
