Green-run Waltham Forest Council has opened a consultation on closing the Leytonstone Family Hub, also known as The Junction and moving services to Leyton Library instead.

Cabinet members agreed to the cost-cutting move, which would see The Junction, at 2-4 Cathall Road leased out.

The hub currently provides learning and play activities, childcare, family support, employment support, and benefits advice to families in need.

The proposal forms part of plans to establish Leyton Library as a new “multi-use community hub” serving the south of the borough, with all of the services that are offered at The Junction transferred over.

Early ideas for the new site at Leyton Library include “a shared children’s library and Family Hub welcome area, flexible rooms for community use and private appointments, and improved facilities for families”.

The layout and services would be developed through consultation and further design work, the council has said.

In a statement on their website, the council said: “We know changes like this can feel unsettling but we want to understand how we can make family hubs, library and community services as accessible as possible.

“We want to understand your concerns, hear your suggestions and find out what residents need from local services. Existing family hub services will continue during the consultation.”

Anyone can take part in the consultation which runs until Monday 30th November, whether or not they currently use the family hub in Cathall Road.

The consultation closes on Monday 30th November. Take part here
