A care home in Chingford is welcoming the local community for a “fun-filled afternoon of food and celebration” at its food festival on Saturday 8th August from 12pm to 4pm..
Visitors to the Care UK’s Ivy Grove home in Hatch Lane can look forward to a garden barbecue featuring an assortment of international cuisine, including tortillas, paella and souvlaki – all paired with cocktails and mocktails.
There will also be live entertainment where guests can enjoy watching flamenco and paso doble performances, alongside a live singer – all inspired by the nations of Mexico, Spain and Greece to keep guests’ toes tapping while they feast.
Resident Christine Jones said: “I am most looking forward to trying the dishes from all three countries – especially the paella, which I haven’t tried in years.”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and “showcase what life in a care home is really like”.
Each festival will offer sustainable, community-focused activities while championing the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Jacob Mante, Home Manager at Ivy Grove, said: “We’re so excited to host our very own food festival, which promises to be a memorable afternoon for everyone who comes along.
“At Ivy Grove, we’re home to residents and team members from a wonderfully diverse range of cultures. This event is a chance to celebrate them through food, showcasing flavours from Mexico, Spain and Greece. Many are favourites of ours, so we can’t wait for guests to try.
