83 young people from the Scouts, including many from Waltham Forest, received their prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation achievement awards presented at a live event at Sir James Hawkey Hall on 12th November.

The live event celebrated achievement award winners aged 11 to 25 for their contributions to their Scouts unit, where winners received medallions and framed certificates from the foundation along with a £300 grant for them to spend to benefit their unit.

In addition, four adults were awarded ‘Leader Awards’ for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people. They each received a medallion and a framed certificate.

The Jack Petchey Foundation has invested over £5.4million in Waltham Forest since funding started.

Harry, 14, from 1st Highams Park cub scouts group won the Jack Petchey Achievement Award for his dedication as a “mature, sensible, and highly respected” volunteer. He attend cubs every Tuesday evening without fail and is described as being “extremely reliable and helpful”.

The Jack Petchey Foundation added: “Harry shows great initiative to support the sections activities, and can be relied upon to run and pack away events without supervision or prompting.

“Harry is responsible for all of the weekly catering needs for the pack and leads on organising one evening session a term. He is looked up to by the cubs for his patience and kind demeanour, and can often been seen helping them with their work. Harry is also highly regarded by the fellow adult leaders for his willingness to help and initiative.”

Harry decided to spend his £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Grant on tents and a trip to Tolmers Campsite with his peers.
