Transport for London (TfL) posters plastered in around the station say no buses will stop there ‘until further notice’, reports Marco Marcelline

Walthamstow Bus Station has been shut until “further notice” due to faulty traffic lights in Selborne Road and Hoe Street.
According to Transport for London (TfL), buses have been diverted to stop at other stops in Walthamstow.
It comes amid a tube strike this week which has stopped all Victoria Line services from Walthamstow Central and Blackhorse Road Station. The Central Line is also not operating at Leyton and Leytonstone, meaning commuters across the borough have been more reliant than usual on buses.
The 230, W15, and W19 bus routes have been diverted to Stop V on Hoe Street, while the 275, 215, SL1, and SL2 have all been rerouted to Stop G by HSBC bank on Hoe Street.
The 212 and W12 are now stopping at Stop S on Church Hill, and the 257 has been curtailed back to Leyton Green.
A TfL spokesperson told the Echo: “We’ve had to temporarily close Walthamstow bus station for safety reasons due to Thames Water roadworks on Selbourne Road. We’re very sorry for the disruption to people’s journeys and are working with Thames Water and the London Borough of Waltham Forest to try to resolve the situation.
“We have staff on the ground helping customers with their onward journeys and our real time travel information channels including TfL Journey Planner have been updated with this information. We encourage everyone to check our online travel tools for the latest information and allow more time for their journey.”
Walthamstow Bus Station was temporarily shut for safety works from Friday 8th November up to and including Friday 20th December last year.
The works, which included carriageway resurfacing, and new signage, came after the death of Grace Mecaley, 74, who was struck by a 212 bus at the station in December 2023.
Since 1st September, commuters at Walthamstow Central have been hit by disruption after TfL took the Victoria Line down escalator out of service for repair works. It is expected to re-open by the end of next week.
There is also no step-free access between Walthamstow Central’s ticket hall and the bus station until January 2026, while the lift gets replaced.
