The new games area at Priory Court Estate is equipped with floodlights, a spectator zone with designated seating, and toilets

A brand new multi-use games area (MUGA) has been opened at Walthamstow’s Priory Court Estate.
The new and larger MUGA, built to Sports England standards, can be used for basketball, football, cricket, netball and is equipped with floodlights, a spectator zone with designated seating, toilets, and storage facilities.
Deputy council leader Ahsan Khan, said: “We are dedicated to creating vibrant, sustainable communities where people can thrive. The new MUGA is proof of our commitment to enhancing community spaces and providing high-quality amenities for our residents.
“This scheme not only provides new homes but also brings significant benefits to the existing residents and the wider community, including job opportunities and improved safety measures. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this development will have on Walthamstow.”
Last year, the council opened a new play area at the estate, featuring climbing frames and towers, swings, slides, trampolines, a zip line as well as a new rubber play resurface.
And in June, a new six-storey high public mural was unveiled at the Priory Court estate.

Local arts organisations Wood Street Walls CIC and The Digital Story CIC assisted the funding of the project, titled The Priory Court Unity Banner. The mural utilises local artist INSA’s signature augmented reality technique to combine frames into an animated GIF which can be viewed through his GIF-ITI Viewer app.
The 160 metre-squared artwork is the only permanent mural in the Priory Court Estate, and is based on the stories of local residents about the estate, shared as part of workshops celebrating the community.
