Independent grocery store Nourished Communities opened a new shop on St James Street, Walthamstow earlier this month.

As part of their opening celebrations, they gave away 100 St John donuts and glasses of cremant, plus 25 litres of extra virgin olive oil.

A treasure hunt took place to celebrate their opening on Saturday 3rd May. Five tins of five litre Honest Toil olive oil were up for grabs for the first to find Nourished Communities fabric bees, which were hidden in the neighbourhood and revealed through clues posted on Instagram

Nourished Communities started in 2020, supporting local producers that could no longer trade on farmer’s markets during the first lockdown.

Their market stall roots shows itself on the shop floor with over 200 independent makers and growers represented in their eclectic range of organic veg and veg boxes, quality British meats, freshly baked bread and empanadas, local honey, hot sauces, wines and much more.

Nourished Communities founder Rollo Millership said: “For me, farmers markets are tangible market places that foster incredible communities. Where entrepreneurs graft to make items they are proud of and improve them through direct customer feedback. They represent sustainable growth, a precious hub of community. That’s what we strive to create through our stores.”

Nourished Communities now has three stores, in Islington, Finsbury Park, and Blackhorse Road respectively.

The new St James Street store is open Monday to Friday 10.30am – 7.30pm, Saturday from 9.30am- 7.30pm and Sundays from 10.30am – 6pm.

You can find Nourished Communities at 28 St James St, E17 7PF
