‘Unique’ prints on sale in pop-up Walthamstow art gallery

Artist Jason Hawkridge’s upcycled prints are on sale until Wednesday at 1b Coppermill Lane in Walthamstow

By Marco Marcelline

A local artist is selling a host of unique prints this week in Walthamstow.

Jason Hawkridge’s collection of upcycled prints, which evoke his love of diagrams and geometric shapes, are on sale at 1B Window Gallery in Coppermill Lane tomorrow (29th), and Wednesday (30th April).

Speaking about his art, Jason told the Echo: “A lot of the templates are made from found objects from the Walthamstow market, like netting from pears and lemons to the back plates of microwaves, and gridded webbing from old builders materials.”

Commenting on his work style, he said: “They’re all unique prints, original, one-of-a-kind prints, no copies, and I really pride myself on making that kind of work for people.

“I’d make more money probably if I did [make multiple copies], but I don’t like the idea of having to keep reproducing stuff; if I really like a print then I’ll make something similar but it’s never the same one.”

Visitors to the sale can pick up a print of a single brush stroke starting at £30, with the most expensive framed prints priced at £130 each.
1b Coppermill Lane has been run as a window gallery since 2017.

Previously an empty sub-station owned by UK Power Networks, it was turned into a gallery by locals Hannah Ford, Rebecca Booker and Joana Niemeyer of Invisible Numbers thanks to the help of Waltham Forest Council, St James Big Local and Artillery CIC.
