Veronica Ryan will join the gallery’s director Hadrian Garrard on 18th January for a conversation about her career

The Turner Prize winning artist Veronica Ryan is set to speak in a special discussion panel hosted by William Morris Gallery director Hadrian Garrard in the New Year.
On Thursday 18th January, the Walthamstow gallery will be welcoming Veronica for a discussion on her career and the themes and motivations around her work. Her 2021 major solo exhibition Along a Spectrum is included in the gallery’s current exhibition Radical Landscapes.
The inclusion of her work marks the first time that Veronica, a former Leyton resident, has shown her art at the gallery since the group show E11 Works on Paper in the 1980s. The William Morris Gallery has said it is “very proud to see her return”.
Joining her in conversation will be the gallery’s director and co-curator of Radical Landscapes, Hadrian Garrard.
In an interview with Tate following her Turner Prize win in 2022, Veronica said her work reflects an interest in “contradiction and paradox”.
Some of her colourful sculptures and installations are made using a variety of materials from the natural world such as dried flowers, volcanic ash, seeds and fruit.
As the William Morris Gallery notes, her work “examines environmental concerns, personal narratives and memories, as well as the wider psychological implications of history, trauma and recovery”.
Doors on the day will open at 6.30pm ahead of the 7pm talk and Q&A. At 8pm Hadrian will lead guests on a tour of the exhibition.
