A local family is raising funds to pay for the funeral of Michael Slinn, who died just weeks after he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, writes Marco Marcelline

The family of a Walthamstow man who died unexpectedly after fluid in his stomach turned out to be aggressive cancer have paid tribute to a “legend” as they seek funds for his funeral.
Writing on the GoFundMe page, his daughter Jodie said her dad, Michael ‘Micky’ Slinn, had been unwell “for the last six to eight months” but the family didn’t know what was wrong. He eventually attended hospital where he was told he had a fluid build up in his stomach, which was drained on Sunday, 28th April.
However, his condition didn’t improve, and he was forced to go back to hospital on the 2nd of May where further testing was done.
Everything changed a week later, as Jodie states: “On Monday, 8th May our lives were turned upside down. Me and my brother Mikee got the call to come home from work as my mum needed to tell us something. We were then told dad had cancer in multiple places and he was too weak for treatment; our hearts were broken.”
Micky died on Thursday, 4th June in Whipps Cross Hospital.

Paying tribute to her dad, she said: “Anyone that knew my dad would know how much pride he had and he was also a great dad, brother, friend and colleague.
“These past few weeks have been awful and seeing him drastically decline the way he did is honestly something we will all never get over. We honestly thought we would get more time with him, but he is out of pain now and no more suffering.
“Dad had a great life and lived it to the fullest. He was such an amazing man who will be missed so much by so many. He truly loved all his family and friends, but we all know his love for Leeds United was unmatched!”
