The East London Brass Band, based in Walthamstow, has triumphed at the Stevenage Championships, winning the prestigious Championship Section title on 16th March.

The win secures their place at the National Brass Band Finals at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall on 11th October 2025.

Under the baton of conductor Jayne Murrill, the band delivered an “outstanding” performance. Reflecting on the achievement, Murrill shared her elation: “I’ve been part of this band since 1982 and began conducting in 2008. I feel over the moon. We have worked so hard over the years to improve, and this feels like the start of an exciting new chapter.”

Adding to the celebration, East London Brass also won the Sue Murrill Memorial Shield for Best Trombone Section – an accolade with deep personal significance for Murrill, whose mother conducted the band for 17 years. “That made it even more special,” she added.

The band is now eagerly anticipating its first-ever performance at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall, where they will compete against the country’s finest brass bands. But before then, they have a busy schedule ahead. East London Brass will take part in the prestigious Spring Festival in Blackpool and are set to entertain audiences in Walthamstow with a performance of Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers on 7th June.
