The Red Lion is home to the iconic 350-capacity Ballroom, which once hosted legendary music acts like The Who and Led Zeppelin

The historic Red Lion pub in Leytonstone will reopen on Friday (21st February) following a £750,000 refurbishment.
The renovation has been at the behest of new owners Urban Pubs & Bars (UPB), who took over in September 2024 when its previous owner fell into administration.
Open since 1870, the Red Lion is probably the most known pub in Leytonstone. It is home to the iconic 350-capacity Ballroom, which once hosted legendary music acts like The Who and Led Zeppelin and today continues to platform exciting live talent.
Aside from also doubling up as a ten-bedroom boutique hotel, the pub has a large beer garden, which now features new covered booths and street-art inspired murals.
Announcing the Red Lion’s reopening, UPB promised a “return of a truly exceptional pub experience”, with a “carefully curated” menu featuring locally sourced food, craft beers, fine wines, and the Red Lion’s renowned Sunday roasts.
Chris Hill, Managing Director of Urban Pubs & Bars, said: “The Red Lion is one of East London’s most beloved pubs, with a history that few can match. From legendary gigs to being at the heart of the community, it has a story worth preserving.
“This refurbishment was about honouring that legacy while ensuring the Red Lion is once again one of London’s must-visit pubs. We’re thrilled to welcome guests back for a drink, a meal, or even a stay in our boutique hotel.”
To celebrate the grand reopening, the Red Lion will host an official launch party on Thursday 27th February.
The pub will reopen at 6pm on Friday 21st February
