Volunteers are being sought to help run a winter holiday foodbank in Leytonstone.

For the second year running Good Shepherd Studios and WeFlock CIC are taking over the shop at No.1 Church Lane to offer food, drinks and support for local residents from 12pm to 2pm every day from Christmas Eve until 2nd January.

Last year’s iteration of FoodHub, was possible due to Hornbeam, Tin in a Bin, Holy Trinity Church and other local organisations. It meant residents and small businesses were offered free food and support throughout the winter break.

Now helpers are being sought for this year’s FoodHub.

Good Shepherd Studios and WeFlock are specifically looking for volunteers to help with serving free hot food, pantry items and hot drinks and snacks, as well as drivers to help collect food from local businesses and support groups.

They are also looking for donations of fridges, microwaves, tinned food, toilet paper, tooth paste, tea, sugar, and squash.

Local resident Shanice, who previously used the foodbank said: “It’s been such a welcoming space, I’ve been back three times to grab some bits but also to just say hello. I think it’s a beautiful thing.”

Meanwhile Wayne said: “This little bank is just brilliant – it’s helped out so many people. Something like this is what people need around here.”

A spokesperson for FoodHub said: “As other food banks close for a well deserved break we found that the FoodHub became a really social environment for volunteers and visitors alike.”
