Victoria Line suspended due to fire at Kings Cross

Commuters are experiencing severe delays on the line following a small track side fire that was put out by firefighters this afternoon

The Victoria Line was briefly suspended this afternoon because of a small northbound track side fire between Kings Cross and Highbury and Islington, causing severe delays for passengers in Walthamstow.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade (LFB) told the Echo that third rail porcelain insulator pots were responsible for the fire. The LFB was alerted to the fire at 2.37pm.

Four fire engines attended the fire, which was extinguished by 4.20pm. The small track side fire caused the Victoria Line to be briefly suspended, with the line now experiencing critical delays.

The fire was put out with extinguishers and with the help of a thermal imagery camera.

A Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson said: “We apologise to Victoria line customers for the disruption to their journeys this evening. This has been caused by fault with the track in the Kings Cross area. Engineers are working as quickly as possible to restore a normal service.”

Tickets are being accepted on London Buses, London Overground, Greater Anglia, Thameslink, Great Northern and Southeastern Railway services via reasonable routes.

Customers are advised to check the TfL website or TfL Go app for real-time travel information.
