A Walthamstow artist is fundraising to print a collaborative book ahead of a series of solo shows planned for next year.

Rezia Wahid, awarded an MBE in 2005 for contributions to the arts, is exhibiting her textile work at Bristol Spring, the Whitchurch Silk Mill and lastly William Morris Gallery next year.

The book, Weaving Light, will feature both her textiles and pieces from nine other artists responding to her work and has already raised more than £3,000 on Kickstarter.

Rezia said she is "probably more known in the borough" for her weaving workshops at the William Morris Gallery and first set foot in Walthamstow in 1999 to teach textile art at the since-closed Warwick School for Boys.

She said: "I have not had any shows in Waltham Forest, other than one at One Hoe Street in 2019, so it would be nice to have this enjoyed by the borough."

Her husband and fellow artist Khaled Hakim said the book was "a self-selective anthology of sorts" and came about in part due to lockdown, which led artists to take to social media and interact with creators across the globe.

They added that a date for the show in William Morris Gallery had yet to be decided.
