Five people are in hospital after a car crash in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, today.

Residents feared the worst after an air ambulance was seen touching down outside Waltham Forest Town Hall shortly before 2pm.

A car drove into Prestige Barbers on the corner of Cedars Avenue, injuring a woman outside, a customer inside and two barbers, as well as the 65-year-old driver.

While a Met Police spokesperson claimed all injuries “are believed to be non-life threatening and non-life changing”, a statement from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) said all five were in hospital and three were sent “as a priority”.

The Met Police were asked if they wished to update their statement given it conflicted with the LAS account and declined to do so.

A member of staff from Prestige Barbers said the two barbers were not seriously injured but that the woman and customer both seemed “badly hurt”.

He added that both windows of the shop were smashed and that it is likely to be closed for repairs for the next three days.

Police ask anyone with information to call 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting 3761/14Oct.
