Eight sites within the Leyton Mills area have been earmarked for high-rise towers. A public consultation is set to close at 5pm on Sunday 14th April, reports Marco Marcelline

Plans for close to 5,000 homes on the edge of the Lea Valley are under public consultation until 14th April.
The housing comes part of council plans to guide development in Leyton Mills across the next fifteen years.
The area that the council is looking to develop includes New Spitalfields Market, Leyton Mills Retail Park, Temple Mills Bus Depot, and Eton Manor in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The consultation, which opened on Monday 4th March, is set to close at 5pm on Sunday 14th April. The council says residents’ views will “help guide amendments to the planning document” which will then be submitted for formal adoption by the council.
As the Local Democracy Reporting Service previously reported, 1,700 homes are earmarked at the Leyton Mills Retail Park, while 2,400 homes would be built at New Spitalfields Market once it is relocated to Dagenham.
Meanwhile, Lea Interchange Bus Garage would be transformed into a bus depot housed underneath residential towers containing about 650 homes.

Eight sites within the Leyton Mills area have been earmarked as potential spots for high-rise towers. According to a Leyton skyline study published by the council in 2021, areas including Ruckholt Road, and New Spitalfields Market could be home to towers as tall as 30 storeys.
Proposed ideas also include a new ‘green’ bridge connecting Leyton Mills to Eton Manor and south to the Olympic Park, as well as enhanced sports provision, and public open space at Eton Manor.
The construction of a new rail station at Ruckholt Road which will connect to the Stratford to Meridian Water line is also included in the planning document.
The council is holding a drop-in event for residents with questions about the plans at Asda Leyton Mills from 2pm and 7pm on 14th March.
