A new Walthamstow-based project has been set up to help people with long-term mental illnesses who would like to socialise in a friendly and supportive environment.
Better Together was set up in October 2014 by mental health support worker, Evan Mason, as a way to assist people who have become socially isolated.
The group meets every Friday afternoon from 1–3pm, in the Community Bowls Pavilion in Lloyd Park, Forest Road E17. It is open to anyone experiencing mental health problems, and they are welcome to bring friends or relatives.
It is free to attend, with tea and coffee provided.
Mason, who runs the Better Together meet-ups in his spare time, explains: “It’s a very relaxed group. We usually just play cards, eat cake, and chat.”
In addition to the Friday afternoon socials, Better Together have also been meeting to play bowls on Monday mornings from 10am to 12 midday. Bowling sessions are on hold in the New Year but are due to restart on Monday 2nd March.
To get in touch, please contact Evan Mason at Better Together on 07873 968 883 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Community Bowls Pavilion is between the Aveling Centre Café and the outdoor gym in Lloyd Park, Forest Road E17. For full details of how to get there, go to www.walthamforest.gov.uk/pages/servicechild/lloyd-park.aspx.
For those keen to get a little fresh air and exercise, there are ongoing projects and events in Lloyd Park which are open to all.
There is a conservation project, free sports facilities and regular sessions such as Tai Chi, running and gardening.
