Photographer Helen Jackson embarks on endless lockdown walks to uncover the state of housing in Walthamstow: developments, classic Warner architecture and individualistic homes.
“Lockdown walks around Walthamstow have made me take more interest in my neighbourhood. It’s hard to miss the number of new developments and the scale of student accommodation around Blackhorse Road.”
“Likewise, hoardings promise more to come and scaffolding shows refurbishment is on the rise. Although many of the new high-rise blocks have balconies and communal space, the distinctive Warner Estate flats were ahead of their time with gardens for all.”
“We’ve also spotted more individual homes: the row of red houses off Sutherland Road; a wooden house on Wood Street; and houseboats on the River Lea.”
