A group of charity supporters have completed a 78-mile circular walk around London – and raised more than £2,000 for a Walthamstow homeless shelter.

Branches trustees Winston Reid and Gilbert Stowe set off from Lee Valley Ice Centre on 29th April and, with the help of 19 family and friends, finished the walk last Friday 1st September after covering the orbital route in nine stages and surpassing their fundraising target of £1,500.

The route took them along the River Lea; through Newham, Woolwich, Shooters Hill, Crystal Palace, Wimbledon, Richmond, Greenford, Horsenden Hill, Harrow, Highgate Woods, and Parkland Walk, before their final leg from Finsbury Park to Walthamstow Marshes.

Winston, chair of the Branches trustees and organiser of the walk, said: “We are really grateful to all our friends and family who have given up tremendous support through rain, thunderstorms and heat, together with their financial donations.

“We are also thankful to the community, especially shoppers at Sainsbury’s Chingford, Low Hall stores, and the Christian Kitchen, for their very generous donations.”

Donations are still welcome.
